The Arctic landscape

Cruise to the North Pole - While cruising in the comfort and security afforded by the 75,000 HP, nuclear powered, Russian icebraker Yamal, you'll readily burst through ice floes, pressure ridges, and hummocks up to 16' thick. You'll be exploring on one of the very few vessels with an ability to traverse the challanging Arctic Basin, where the ever-changing panorama of wind-polished ice, narrow channels of dark-green water are certain to mesmerize you.

Not only is the Yamal an incredibly rugged vessel it is also very sophisicated technologically, and it offers thoroughly comfortable accommodations, outstanding amenities and excellent cuisine.

Throughout your Arctic cruise, both the Yamal's helicopter and Zodiac landing craft will be available to expand the breadth of your exploration. Furthermore, an outstanding team of onboard lecturers and naturalists will enhance your appreciation of the historical and natural phenomena you encounter.

Tramp Voyages - Unlike regular freighters which have relatively predictable and constant itineraries, a fleet of German tramp steamers work from one contract to another, changing voyages and serving all kinds of different trades. They are mainly bulkcarriers and, depending on the size of the vessel, are classified as Handy or Seaway (smallest), Panamax and Cape (largest); the names indicating the type of routes they are most likely to travel. Please visit Maris Freighter Cruises for daily schedules and fares on these as well as on all other passenger-carrying freighters.
